Speaking of books...

Wednesday, December 16 2009

One of my favorite child reads is “Big Rabbit’s Bad Mood” by Ramona Bădescu and Delphine Durand. It is a favorite because I, like everyone else occasionally suffers from a bad mood! This story is a wonderful description of Big Rabbit trying his best to ditch his bad mood all day long. Unlike most grown-ups who can usually find a way to turn their mood around fairly quickly with chocolate, wine or a happy song, children often can get totally stuck in their mood and willingly stay there to our dismay for a while. Following is a fabulous suggestion by the authors (this is not in the book) to possibly cure one of these stubborn moods. We currently have a neat selection of books at the shop. If you are interested in ordering a book just give us a shout via email.

TAKE A BLANKET BATH. This activity may or may not result in a (much-needed) nap, but at the very least it offers quiet time and/or time for the child by himself. Children need these things as much as we do. Grab 3-4 pillows and 2-3 blankets. Put the pillows in the bottom of a (dry) bathtub, and toss the blankets on top. Invite your child in fully-clothed. You may want to “scrub” him lightly (or suggest he “wash” himself), if he seems to be getting into the game. Let your child “soak” for as long as he likes.
Caveat: Is your child the kind that might turn on the water? Then don’t leave him alone during this activity."

The Perfect Gift? A Book!

Tuesday, December 08 2009

Oh, happy day – Buggy has lots of books that are great for all ages. Books are easy to wrap and ship and unleash the magic in little brains the way nothing else can. For serious big-kid readers, try one (or three!) of the installments of The Mysterious Benedict Society and little kiddos love Toot and Puddle.

Festivities this Friday

Thursday, December 03 2009

Our lovely little Madrona neighborhood will be all decked out and ready to party this coming Friday night, December 4th. At Buggy, we’ll be knitting the night away from 7pm – 9pm as well as wrapping gifts for late-night shoppers. All crafters welcome! You can also visit other great Madrona businesses like Decor on 34th, Hitchcock, Conrow Porcelain, Kismet Salon and Precocious Toys. Eat dinner at any one of the fabulous, centrally-located – FAMILY-FRIENDLY! – restaurants. Madrona Ale House will be donating 10% of their evening’s proceeds to Genesis House. Naam Thai and St. Clouds are great options, too. Check out www.madrona.biz for neighborhood info.
